- Cape Hatteras Lighthouse - Off NC Highway 12, Buxton - 252.995.4474 The tallest lighthouse in the nation at 200 feet, it was moved 2,900 feet inland in 1999 to protect it from wind and encroaching water. Open for climbing, weather and wind permitting, from early April until Columbus Day. Visitor's Center and museum are open year-round from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
